My quick, easy guide to the latest carry-on luggage sizes and weight restrictions for the main budget airlines in the UK…

These days, many budget airlines only include a small cabin bag in the standard ticket fare, referred to as “underseat luggage” or a “personal item”. These are pretty small and have to fit under the seat in front of you.

If you want to take a larger carry-on bag, you’ll need to pay extra. It’s also sometimes included if you pay for priority boarding or an upfront seat, so check out your options when booking your flight.

The two tables below should give you a rough idea of what size luggage travellers can take on most budget flights from the UK. These are always subject to change, though, so be sure to double-check before booking anything…

Large Cabin Bag Allowances

Some airlines (British Airways, KLM, TUI) include a free large cabin bag alongside your personal item. Others charge extra for the large cabin bag, or include it with upgraded ticket types (eg, Wizz Priority on Wizz Air). The table below breaks down the large cabin bag size restrictions of the most popular budget airlines – and whether these are included with your ticket, or incur an extra fee:
