Looking for the best eSIM for your trip to Canada? Here’s an in-depth look at why Holafly is the best choice…
Last month, I headed to Canada for the road trip of DREAMS around Alberta. It was the trip of a lifetime: a week exploring the Rockies in an RV. I knew we’d be relying on the internet heavily for this trip (and uploading a LOT of photos!), so I needed to make sure I had plenty of data.
I opted for a Holafly eSIM for two reasons. One, because I’ve tried them before and know the coverage and service are always good. And two, because they offer unlimited data plans, which meant I could use the internet freely without worrying about running out of data. Below, you’ll find a detailed look at the pricing, coverage, and my real-world experience of using the Holafly eSIM in Canada, to help you decide if this is the right choice for your trip.

How I Tested the Holafly eSIM
As a frequent traveller, I’ve been using eSIMs for years: I’ve used them all over the world and have tried out several different brands, including Holafly, Nomad, Airalo, and Orange Travel. So I definitely know what I’m looking for in terms of prices, ease of use, and app experience!
I purchased an 8-day Canada eSIM with unlimited data and tested it out during my recent road trip in Alberta. While I was out there, I ran speed tests to check the internet data speeds, and used my data pretty heavily: streaming songs on Spotify, using Google Maps as a SatNav, paying with Google Pay, uploading Instagram stories, making calls on WhatsApp, and much more. My friend was using her Vodafone SIM, which meant I was also able to compare Holafly’s internet speed and signal coverage against Vodafone’s.

Holafly eSIM in Canada: My Honest Experience
Plans and Pricing
Unlike other eSIM companies, almost all Holafly plans come with unlimited data. You simply choose the number of days you need it for! The following prices for the Canada eSIM plan were correct as of October 2025:
- 1 day – £6
- 7 days – £29 (£4.14 per day)
- 15 days – £41 (£2.73 per day)
- 30 days – £75 (£2.50 per day)

There are cheaper eSIMs out there – especially if you go for a limited data plan. You might be able to buy 1GB or 3GB of data from another provider for a fairly low price – but you’ll burn through a few GB faster than you might think!
If you know you won’t use much internet while you’re in Canada, and only want data for sending the odd WhatsApp message, then a limited data eSIM will probably work out cheaper. But if you’re a heavy data user (like me!), then Holafly’s unlimited data plans often work out more affordable.
For me, price isn’t the only factor to consider. Ease of use, coverage, reliability, and performance are also important. If you want an eSIM you can definitely rely on, with no hidden fees or data limits, Holafly is always a safe bet!

Purchase & Setup Experience

Holafly’s website is very easy-to-use and user-friendly – even if you’re new to eSIMs! You can browse by destination (either for a specific country or for a region), or simply use the search bar to type in the country you’re looking for.
I searched for Canada, set the number of days I needed, and checked out. It couldn’t be easier! As soon as I’d purchased my eSIM, they sent me the installation guidelines and QR code via both WhatsApp and email. I forwarded the WhatsApp message to my friend, scanned the QR code from her phone’s screen, and voila, my eSIM was installed. SO EASY!
Holafly have three methods to install your eSIM:
- Scan a QR code (the easiest).
- Manual installation: adding the eSIM manually via your phone’s settings using a code that Holafly will send you.
- One-button installation if your phone is iOS 17.4 or above (the easiest option for iPhone users).
TOP TIP: Print your QR code or load it on a different device (such as a friend’s phone or your laptop) so you can scan it with the phone you want to install the eSIM on.

Network and Coverage
In Canada, Holafly’s eSIM uses the following networks: Bell, Telus, and Sasktel. It will switch between them automatically to ensure you have the best coverage wherever you are.
While I was there, I ran a couple of speed tests* to check the internet speeds. Google’s built-in speed test found a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 3.16 Mbps, while Speedtest.net found a download of 28.34 Mbps. This speed is more than enough for normal internet usage. Speedtest say you need 25 Mbps or above for streaming 4K video, while you only need around 2 Mbps for basic internet usage like social media and email, and 10 Mbps for HD streaming and video calls.

Holafly eSIM Real-World Performance in Canada
The real-world performance is what makes Holafly the best eSIM for Canada, in my opinion! I used my Holafly eSIM data heavily during my trip and consistently had fast, reliable connection.
My friend and I took a road trip around Alberta in an RV, so I needed internet access a lot for things – such as Google Maps and streaming our road trip playlists on Spotify. After all, carpool karaoke is a road trip necessity! Helen’s Vodafone network proved pretty unreliable at times, so we ended up using my phone exclusively as the SatNav throughout the trip.

I never experienced any connection issues and always had 4G or 5G signal. It was sometimes a bit slower in more remote areas, but not noticeably so! The only exception was the Icefields Parkway, which famously has no cell service for some 300km! Other than that, I always had connection.
Google Maps, WhatsApp (including voice and video calls), Spotify, emails, and internet searches all worked fine. I was also able to upload videos and photos to Instagram Stories reasonably quickly, and I was able to stream Netflix. I was also watching a lot of YouTube videos to learn how to do stuff like empty the RV’s wastewater tank on the fly – and these worked even at the more remote campsites, like the one in Jasper National Park.
The Holafly eSIM worked great the whole time I was in Canada, and I was really happy with the connection speed and coverage!
