Windsor Court Hotel review

Looking for the best hotel in New Orleans? With a dream location, welcoming vibes, and some impressively grand décor, the elegant Windsor Court Hotel could be the one.

I stayed here for one night during my recent trip to New Orleans and had a fantastic time. My room, a premium suite, was gorgeous – but it was the beautiful lobby area and the incredible (and I mean incredible) restaurant that really stole the show for me. My stay was complimentary, but the following review of the Windsor Court Hotel is totally honest. I’d happily recommend it.

Location: Riverside elegance in the heart of New Orleans

My friend Pam arrived at the hotel before I did, and when I asked her how it was the first thing she said was how amazing the location was. Right between the Central Business District and the French Quarter, the Windsor Court Hotel is right next to the Mississippi River and the rooms have some exceptional views. This is an optimum location in New Orleans, with iconic sights like the French Market, Lafayette Square, and the St Louis Cathedral all less than 15 minutes away from the hotel. And those two blocks from the bustling French Quarter mean that the hotel feels like a tranquil escape, without being cut off from the city.

Character: Romantic and welcoming

Windsor Court Hotel is a sophisticated, distinguished property that feels completely at home so close to the French Quarter. Think easy elegance, French-inspired décor, and a rich collection of art and antiques across the whole hotel. The ground floor lobby and bar area are almost overwhelmingly grand; a huge space with luxurious marble floors. But unlike many grand hotels, the vibes at Windsor Court New Orleans were just like the city itself: unfussy, friendly, and almost excessively welcoming.

All that extends to the hotel’s facilities – from the beautiful restaurant setting (more on that later) to the wellness areas. The spa at Windsor Court Hotel has been ranked the best in New Orleans, and it’s easy to see why. A tranquil and serene setting with top-notch facilities and a fab menu of treatment options make it the ideal place to unwind after a busy day in the city. But it’s the rooftop pool that steals the show. Heated in winter, and open until 10pm, the pool has gorgeous views of the city skyline and is a seriously impressive setting.

Rooms: Space, light, and simple sophistication

Our room, a premium suite, was an enormously light and airy affair with glorious views from the balcony. All the rooms at the Windsor Court Hotel are surprisingly large, with even the standard rooms coming in at 400 sq ft. It’s ideal if you need a real space to unwind and feel at home.

With calming shades of pastel blues and ivories, the rooms maximise the generous amounts of daylight streaming through the large windows. And despite marble bathrooms and plush furnishings, the decor is tastefully understated. Nothing seems too fussy or showy – just the perfect level of elegance and luxury mixed with comfort to create a perfect home away from home.

Food and Drink

For me the absolute highlight of the Windsor Court Hotel was our lunch at the stunning Grill Room restaurant. In fact this was easily the best meal I had in New Orleans. Known for their Sunday Jazz Brunches – complete with delicious mimosas – the Grill Room is a fabulous blend of traditional southern food and more contemporary cuisine. Highlights include crawfish pasta, crabcakes, and gumbo.

The setting is as rich and elegant as the rest of the hotel, and I loved the super airy dining area with outdoor views. The lunch menu was incredible, and our friendly server knew the ins-and-outs of every dish on it by heart. She was on hand for some amazing recommendations and helped me seek out the most quintessential New Orleans dishes to make my first meal in the city a special one. And as for the food itself – I really can’t gush enough about it. Just incredible!

  1. I am a long term fan of the Windsor Court, staying here numerous times over the past 5 years. However, I wanted your readers to know that the hotel is still working to be the best in New Orleans.
The new upgrades to the rooms (ongoing) are a nice touch with deeper soaking tubs, glass shower doors, USB ports at bedside, and new sofas in the suites.
I am also looking forward to the new club lounge after its renovation this summer. Thanks for this review Emily :)
